Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) today said the deluge has taken away chunks of main roads in Morigaon, Jorhat and Dibrugarh districts, snapping road communications and breached river embankments in Kokrajhar, Jorhat, Bongaigaon, Dibrugarh and Golaghat districts causing water to rush into vast tracks of human habitation.

Flood waters submerged 99,416.44 hectare of agricultural land in Lakhimpur, Golaghat, Bongaigaon, Jorhat, Dhemaji, Sivsagar, Barpeta, Kokrajhar, Nagaon, Dibrugarh, Chirang, Goalpara, Tinsukia, Dhubri, Morigaon, Darrang, Sonitpur and Biswanath district.

On the other hand, flood waters submerged several areas in Kaziranga National Park (KNP) and Pobitora wildlife sanctuary.

Seven people have died in flood and landslide related incidents in the last week, and till last reports came in, 18 districts across the state are affected by floods.

NDFR and SDRF teams have been deployed in relief and rescue works. The Burhidehing, Subansiri and Dhansiri rivers are also flowing above danger mark.

However, people who are still marooned alleged that sufficient relief materials from the government and district administration have not reached them.

While the water level of Datung, Sine and Sisiri rivers under Dambuk have touched the danger level, there was heavy bank erosion reported in the right bank of Datung river and many villages like Paglam, Bangoo, Keba, Kanling, Anpum and Loklung were affected by flood water.

Over 51 thousand people from 100 villages are reeling under the fury of flood at Majuli revenue circle in Jorhat district alone.

Apart from damage to homes, government buildings and roads, another big headache for the state government is that flood waters have inundated 60 per cent of Assam’s famous Kaziranga National Park, and have entered over 40 forest camps manned by rangers in charge of protecting the endangered one-horned rhino. Over 88,000 of them have been lodged in 220 relief camps.
