No ‘secret meeting’ arranged for PM Nawaz in London: Ch Nisar

A massive leak of 11.5 million tax documents on April 3 exposed the secret offshore dealings of world leaders and celebrities, also naming three of the premier’s children for owning London real estate through offshore companies.

He also urged the opposition to refrain from point scoring on medical issues and said that the prime minister would return to Pakistan soon.

Political observers said in the unlikely event of the prime minister bowing to the demand to step down, Shahbaz can not immediately replace him unless he becomes member of the National Assembly by contesting a vacant seat.

Prior to his departure, the Prime Minister held a meeting which was attended by senior ministers including Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar, Chief Minister Punjab Shehbaz Sharif and Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, Geo News reported.

Sharif later arrived in London for what the government had said was a “routine medical checkup, which was repeatedly postponed due to his official engagements over the past few months”.

Nisar categorically rejected that Prime Minister Sharif is visiting London to meet any political figure.

Sharif said last week that his family has done nothing illegal, and set up a commission to investigate all the allegations.

Maryam Safdar, daughter of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, has rubbished speculation of differences within the Sharif family.

Nawaz Sharif lauded PPP’s decision not to be part of PTI’s proposed sit-in in Raiwind.

The minister said that due to politicking and criticism without reasons, many respectable former judges excused themselves from heading the commission.

Khan also alleged that Sharif and his family were involved in corruption and tax evasion.

PM Sharif said Pakistan is craving development and this person (Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan) should not try to obstruct the country’s march towards progress.
