No surprise Golden Globes are a joke

In what may have been the worst Golden Globes awards show ever, LGBT fans were dealt a double blow as the biggest LGBT awards contenders missed out on the big prizes.

When Taraji P. Henson won best actress-drama for her role as Cookie Lyons in Empire, she gave out cookies to other celebrities she passed through on her way to the stage.

Brie Larson, who took home the prize for best actress in a motion picture drama for her searing portrayal of a woman in captivity in “Room”, stunned in a gold sequined halter gown from Calvin Klein, with cutouts at the waist.

Sylvester Stallone won best supporting actor for playing an aging Rocky in “Creed”.

Not only is it unclear who’s going to win best supporting actress, it’s also impossible to predict what the nominees will look like.

“So now I’m thinking more about what it is I want to say and what I want to leave on Earth”.

Unlike the Oscars, the Golden Globes also honors television shows. Ten out of the last 15 winners in their category went on to win the Oscar, so history is on Larson’s side.

The 73rd annual Golden Globes featured stars, fashion, several bleeps which is in keeping with their raucous tradition. Only four out of the last 15 winners of best picture drama went on to win the Oscar (“12 Years a Slave”, “Argo”, “Slumdog Millionaire”, “Gladiator”) and only two of the last 15 have won it after scoring best picture comedy or musical (“The Artist” and “Chicago”).

Washington, 61, was presented with the Cecil B. DeMille Award at the Golden Globes ceremony in recognition of his work in front of and behind the camera. In the television category, “Mr. Robot” won for best TV drama series. Gaga, who won a Globe for playing the Countess in “American Horror Story: Hotel“, noted that she wanted to be an actress before a singer.

The Golden Globes are attributed by some 90 journalists from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. “It’s very rewarding, you know…I think people appreciate seeing a different kind of cinema out there – a more visceral kind of movie”.
