No Surprise – Windows Mobile Hardware Drops Further in Sales and Market Share

Even as smartphone sales across the globe increased by nearly four percent in the recent quarter, Microsoft saw Windows Phone market share dip below one percent. According to Microsoft’s MSDN support page, the display size for Windows 10 Mobile can be as big as 9-inch.

However, maybe this feature will only available for the latest Lumia phones such as Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL. Finally, 14.6% of you think Nokia’s heyday is long gone. As per the publication, Windows users can now use the desktop to access, read, and respond to notifications from the Android smartphone.

In the meantime, Microsoft continues to claim that users are still prompted to decide whether they want to install Windows 10 or not, and they’re always in full control of the upgrade. If it only applies to Windows Phone 8, this would make more sense as this version is not used by the majority of users.

Gartner’s findings come close on the heels of Microsoft’s announcement last week that it is selling off its feature phone business, which it acquired from Nokia in 2013 for over $7 billion, to Nokia partner HMD Global Oy and Foxconn subsidiary FIH Mobile Ltd. In fact, the information shows that Windows devices declined from almost 8.3 million sold in the first quarter of 2015 to just 2.4 million sold this past quarter.

Taking into account Gartner’s research, the company itself sold 2.3 million of the 2.4 million total Window Phone devices shipped in the most recent quarter. Forcing some people to abandon their current devices certainly won’t improve those numbers.

Microsoft is traditionally seen to take the middle ground between iOS and Android when it comes to hardware requirements.
