Noah Syndergaard’s 100-mph heat left literal impression on his catcher

Syndergaard beat the Philadelphia Phillies on Monday night with seven dominant innings, allowing just one run on five hits while striking out eight. With both teams four games out of first place, this series is important to both teams as the Mets seek to return to the top of the division while the Phillies push to win and gain as much experience as possible.

“He’s made such huge strides with command, with his thought process, his learning how to pitch”, manager Terry Collins said. “He did it again tonight”.

Wright rested on Sunday specifically to ensure that he’d play all three games at Citizen’s Bank Park, long his home away from home.

“I can’t explain it”, Wright said. “I think he’s certainly in the talks, at least through three starts”.

Eickhoff used nine pitches to strike out the next two batters, ending his outing, and passing the night’s test. Eickhoff struck out nine batters, walked three, and allowed two runs on five hits in seven innings. Chicago were fooled all night, swinging and missing 20 times while failing to put a run on the board against Santiago, who allowed just two hits over seven innings.

“I can’t say enough good things”. Syndergaard is huge and covers a lot of ground when he launches himself toward home, and that effectively turns his 98-mph sinker and fastball into 99-mph pitches.

That run tied the game at 1-1 after the Mets had jumped out on top of Phillies’ starting pitcher Jerad Eickhoff thanks to a 1st inning solo home run off the bat of veteran 3rd baseman and noted Phillies killer David Wright on the 6th pitch of the game. He’s a good bet to keep it going this weekend in Atlanta. “We just need to score”. We’re in all the games we’re playing except a few.

He improved to 18-1 lifetime at Marlins Park, with the loss coming in his last home start. The most exciting saga of the Phillies’ offense, Odubel Herrera’s discipline and OBP, saw another chapter as the center fielder worked another walk and stole a base while Maikel Franco and Ryan Howard struck out swinging in the background. The Mets had runners on first and second after Syndergaard drew a walk.

Have you ever wondered what it’d feel like to try and stop a Noah Syndergaard fastball after it has bounced in front of you? NY is now 4-2 on the road this season.

Syndergaard downplayed Wright’s video-game comparison.

“He did exactly what you wanted”.

The statistics for Noah Syndergaard are getting truly ridiculous.

The Phillies demoted OF Cedric Hunter to Triple-A when they called up Lough. In 34 at bats, Hunter managed just a.088 batting average. Philadelphia also acquired OF Alfredo Marte from the Orioles on Monday for a player to be named or cash. Mets C Travis d’Arnaud did not start for the second consecutive day because of a bruised left elbow.

Yoenis Cespedes had the two-out hit, which was a triple.

Each of his six fastballs in the first inning registered 100 or 101 miles per hour, with the right-hander reaching the latter on three of his pitches in a flawless frame.
