The Arch, as he is fondly known, is being treated for inflammation, and his current stay is unrelated to the infection which saw him hospitalised last month.

Mpho Tutu added that doctors anticipate that her father will be home from hospital within a few days.

Tutu, 83, was hospitalized twice in July for a persistent infection.

Tutu was hospitalized Monday evening, his daughter Mpho Tutu said in a press briefing in Cape Town on Tuesday.

His family briefed the media earlier today to reveal he has again been admitted to hospital.

Tutu, who received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1984 for his efforts to end apartheid in his native South Africa, has remained active well into his 80s with the Desmond Tutu Peace Foundation and other organizations.

She said her parents were “incredibly grateful” to people “in South Africa and around the world who continue to hold us in your prayers”.
