Aherne died at her home in Timperley, Manchester, on Saturday (July 2), aged 52, following a battle with cancer.
Noel Gallagher has paid tribute to his friend Caroline Aherne. “So wherever you are.” he said, pointing upwards.
Aherne revealed previous battles with cancer in 2014, saying: “I’ve had cancer and my brother’s had cancer and we know how it affects people”.
A relative told the Daily Mirror: “It was too quick, we didn’t expect her to go”. I’ll miss her silliness, her intelligence, her laughter and her joy. She didn’t need to, there was no agenda, she was just amusing.
John Thomson, Aherne’s co-star on The Fast Show, said his friend had “raw talent” and “no agenda”.
We’ve lost a great comedian, actress and writer, and sadly I’ve lost a very dear, very old friend. “She’s a very very amusing woman”.This was the last time I saw her.As tributes for Caroline Aherne continue to pour in, it has emerged that the actress may have died alone.
Carmel, who has several writing credits on The Royle Family, also hailed Caroline as a pioneer, describing her battle to get the boundary-pushing comedy on the air – paving the way for shows like The Office to be made.
He also told The Guardian that her death left a “noticeable gap” in the comedy world.
He told Radio 5 Live: “This is really one of the great tragedies of my professional life that I have watched happen, that is when we started working, Caroline was an innocent, happy young woman with an huge talent”. I can’t think of anything, but she would.
Her brother Patrick also issued a statement telling of his heartbreak at his sister’s death.
Millican said it was “so sad. A true comedy genius, her work was equally amusing & touching”.
A talented writer and performer, Caroline Aherne established herself as one of the best comedy creators working in the UK. “There was a buffet and I went over and Caroline was in front of me”. An actor. A genius.
