Nokia 222 and Nokia 222 dual-SIM feature phones launched for $37

Microsoft touts that the new Nokia 222 and Nokia 222 Dual SIM can offer FM radio playback of up to 45 hours. Trying to keep Nokia on headlines, the Microsoft has announced its latest feature phone codenamed Nokia 222 and Nokia 222 Dual SIM which has the capability to browse the Internet. Nokia 222 is also Bluetooth enabled featuring the SLAM technology that allows for the sharing of files between paired devices.

The feature phones are supported by a BL-5C, 1100 mAh battery which the company claims gives up to 20 hours of talk time besides 29 days of standby on single SIM and 21 days on dual SIM.

The Nokia 222 features a 2.4-inch QVGA (240×320 pixel) LCD display offering a pixel density of 166ppi. The Nokia 222 measures 116x50x12.9mm, and weighs 79 grams.

Both phones run on Nokia Series 30+ OS. Now to pricing, and the Nokia 222 and Nokia 222 Dual SIM will start at US $37. You get internet connectivity for web browsing, Twitter, Facebook, MSN Weather, Bing Search, and some other apps. They support MicroSD cards of up to 32 GB and have a flashlight which is good for emergencies. It’s also an MP3 player and has a built-in FM tuner as well. Buyers will also benefit from a free Gameloft game every month for a year, with games on offer including Midnight Pool 3 and Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood.

The two devices will be rolling out globally in some markets in September and will be available in black and white with a colour-matching keyboard, according to Microsoft. (NASDAQ:AAPL). The software giant has switched its attention to budget phones as it continues to target emerging markets. They will be available at just $37 and yes this is not a joke.

Having swallowed Nokia’s phone division previous year, Microsoft now pulls the strings, but the 222 actually looks like the logical evolution of those old candybar phones that we all had on our nightstands while we dreamt about Y2K.
