Philadelphia Phillies third baseman Andres Blanco was removed from Sunday’s game against the Pittsburgh Pirates with a fractured left index finger in the fifth inning.

Adam Frazier’s pinch-hit home run in the seventh inning powered the Pittsburgh Pirates to a 5-4 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies on Sunday.

Taillon may have failed to walk anybody, and struck out seven Phillies, but as manager Clint Hurdle pointed out, Taillon was particularly good at not running away or quitting in the middle of the game.

PITTSBURGH (AP) – Vince Velasquez didn’t have his best stuff, the Philadelphia Phillies lost another player to injury and the Pittsburgh Pirates got a big hit from the unlikeliest of sources. You’ve got to finish the at-bat.

Phillies: Jeremy Hellickson (7-7, 3.84 ERA) will start a three-game set in Miami. Three times this season, Segura has been hit by a pitch in the same game in which he homered, including against San Francisco on July 8. The Padres added two more singles to load the bases, setting up Alexei Ramirez’s three-run double (see full recap). “I figured he was coming back with a fastball after just missing with two off-speed pitches”, Frazier said. Sean Rodriguez then drove in Joyce with a double to center. In the third, Velasquez singled off his mound opponent, Jameson Taillon, and Cesar Hernandez drove him in with a triple off the wall in center field.

Neftali Feliz (4-0) pitched a scoreless seventh for the win.

NOTES: There was a 92-minute rain delay in the bottom of the eighth.

Taillon comes off a no decision in a 3-2 versus Milwaukee where he gave up a run on five hits in six frames. Blanco took the throw from catcher Carlos Ruiz in plenty of time and tagged Polanco, who contacted Blanco’s glove with his foot.

NY went ahead in the fourth after Gregorius reached on an infield single leading off. Mark Teixeira, in a 1-for-15 slide and dropped to seventh in the batting order for only the third time since 2004, singled to right. Concussion tests done Saturday night and before the game Sunday were negative. C Cameron Rupp, who was hit in the cheek by a pitch Saturday, was out of the Philadelphia lineup.

Pirates: RHP Tyler Glasnow was placed on the 15-day disabled list before the game with shoulder discomfort.

In a late-afternoon start on a 93-degree day, Cueto struggled with deep counts but allowed just an unearned run and six hits in six innings. On Friday he shut down the Pirates thanks to a 100 pitch complete-game shutout which saw him only allow three hits, while striking out six Pirates at the plate. The Phillies enter the series 9½ games behind the Marlins for the final NL Wild Card spot.
