The Arizona Diamondbacks needed extra innings on Tuesday but they got the win in the end.

The Arizona Diamondbacks can’t salvage anything more than a.500 season, though they’d surely like to treat their fans to a strong home finish after mostly miserable play at Chase Field down the stretch. But manager Chip Hale said Gosselin’s ability to play three infield spots makes him valuable, and he felt Gosselin would put the ball in play. Pinch-hitting for Jake Lamb with the bases loaded an an out, the utility man caught Rockies reliever Christian Friedrich with a sharp hit to right field that scored Goldschmidt to move Arizona to 76- 81 on the year. “We missed a few opportunities offensively”, Colorado manager Walt Weiss said.

Carlos Gonzalez smacked his 40th homerun of the season in the top of the third, bringing him back within one of Nolan Arenado’s 41.

First pitch is scheduled for 6:40 p.m. MST and the pregame show will begin at 6 p.m. on Arizona Sports 98.7 FM.

“About a year ago, I was on crutches not being able to walk”, Gonzalez said. Pollock doubled with two outs in the Arizona first and scored on Goldschmidt’s single.

A pair of triples, one in the bottom of the third and another in the fourth, helped the Diamondbacks tie the score at 3. Starting pitcher Christian Bergman allowed five hits and three runs while striking out three over 5.0 innings to not get a decision as Brooks Brown took the loss to fall to 1-3 for the season. He called it a game after six innings, having given up seven hits and three runs. Reyes was picked off, pitcher Ray to first baseman Goldschmidt, Reyes out. He missed the past several days with a left Achilles injury. In 22 starts this year, the lefty has a 3.50 ERA, a 1.31 WHIP, and a 111/48 K/BB ratio over 123 1/3 innings. Gonzalez had to be checked by a trainer after slipping and falling on his left side going after Inciarte’s triple near the right field fence, but he stayed in the game. Anderson is 6-6 with a 4.40 ERA.
