Nomineering, Week 2: Academy Awards voters need to start reading the internet

It received 10 nominations, including cinematography and costume design. It was nominated ten times and won six awards.
Some were shocked to find out that the cast of the “Straight Outta Compton” biopic were passed over.
DiCaprio has missed out on an Oscar four times in the past.
As the Oscars nominations were announced this week, some were quick to point out candidates missing from the list.
Academy president Cheryl Boone Isaacs has since redoubled efforts to diversify the academy’s membership, and slated Chris Rock – who a year ago famously labeled Hollywood a “white industry” – to host this year’s February 28 ceremony.
This week we react to the 88th Academy Award nominations.
The best picture nominees also include independent films “Room”, “Spotlight” and “Brooklyn” as well as studio productions “The Big Short” and “Bridge of Spies”, which had budgets in the $20 million to $40 million range. The bio-epic about the rap group N.W.A. did receive one nomination for best screenplay, and that was on behalf of two Caucasian writers.
Sylvester Stallone, reprising his role as Rocky Balboa in “Creed”, looms large in the supporting actor category.
The Academy also reaffirmed its resistance to giving best picture nods to anything other than live-action narrative cinema, ignoring [awesome animated film, awesome documentary and awesome foreign language film], which, while they have their own categories to compete in, should be recognized at the top level.
Speaking at the European premiere of “The Revenant” in London on Thursday night (13.01.16), Hardy – who plays adventurer John Fitzgerald who betrays Leonardo DiCaprio’s frontiersman Hugh Glass – said: “The nomination is for everybody that was in the cold, everyone who was in the wet”.

There were no black or Asian minority (BAME) acts among the British nominees, a shortfall pointed out by NME magazine among others.
