“We managed to become a great nuclear power capable of defending the independence and national dignity of our homeland by mighty nuclear and hydrogen strikes”, Kim Jong-un was quoted as saying by the North Korean central news agency.

No further details surrounding the nature of the crash were given, prompting analysts to question the cause of the fatal incident.
North Koreans, however, have little choice but to praise and follow their dictator leader.
“DPRK-South Korea relations and the unification issue should be solved with the very strength of people, according to Korean ethnic nationalism ideology, befitting the (Korean) people’s independent will and demand”, said Kim. On Dec. 30, Hong Yong-pyo, South Korea’s Minister of Unification, sent a message to North Korea via liaison officers at Panmunjeom.
Kim Yang Gon appeared to have been performing his duties adequetely.
However, in his speech – only Kim’s fourth since becoming leader in 2011 – he blamed South Korea for “mistrust” between the two nations.
The two sides met for talks in August after a sustained military stand-off and agreed to reduce tension and hold further talks at vice-ministerial level, although subsequent negotiations have been fruitless.
Kim Jong-un will lead an 80-member state funeral for Mr. Kim on Thursday.
He was an experienced adviser with a broad understanding of foreign affairs, but he had high-level foes, said Michael Madden, an expert on the North Korean leadership.
In 2013, he executed his uncle Jang Song Thaek, who was once considered the second most powerful man in the country, for “anti-revolutionary crimes”.
Impoverished North Korea’s road network is badly maintained and auto ownership is rare. Kim Yang-Gon’s predecessor Kim Yong-Sun, who helped arrange the first North-South summit in 2000, also perished in what was described as a traffic accident in 2003.
In his very first public address, at a military parade in April 2012, Kim had said he was determined that North Koreans would “never have to tighten their belts again”.
This week, Pyongyang announced the death of leading official Kim Yang-gon, who was seen as a key figure in ties with Seoul.

His remarks at the beginning of the year come amid widespread speculation that North Korea’s relations with China will remain cool for some time.
