North Korean satellite is in orbit, says South
“The two leaders agreed for the two countries to cooperate closely for the adoption of strong and effective sanctions resolutions as a united response by the worldwide community against the North’s nuclear test and a rocket launch using ballistic missile technology”, the presidential Blue House said.

“The members of the Security Council restated their intent to develop significant measures in a new Security Council resolution in response to the nuclear test conducted by the DPRK on January 6, 2016, in grave violation of the DPRK’s worldwide obligations”, Ambassador Ramírez stressed.
The country is banned from rocket launches using any ballistic missile technologies, according to multiple UN Security Council resolutions.
Though, the United Nations sanctions were imposed in 2006 to curb North Korea’s nuclear ambitions, it does not seem to deter the latter.
China is the only ally and major trading partner of North Korea in the world.
Shortly after North Korea’s long-range missile launch Sunday, South Korea and the US announced they would launch formal consultations on the deployment of the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) system to the South to better defend against the North’s nuclear and missile threats.
North Korea’s last long-range rocket launch, in 2012, put what it called a communications satellite into orbit, but no signal has ever been detected from it.
Admiral Harry Harris, commander of U.S. Pacific Command, and General Curtis Scaparrotti, U.S. Forces Korea commander, will also participate, said one of the officials.
North Korea launched a rocket (containing a satellite) into space.
“However, we need more analysis to determine the capacity, including its exact range”, a defence ministry spokesman told AFP.
Foreign experts claim that China fears any further isolation will push North Korea towards an economic and political collapse.
