The Metropolitan Transportation Authority has issued updates to service on Metro-North due to the fire Tuesday in East Harlem, including NJ TRANSIT cross-honoring Hudson Line tickets on the Port Jervis and Pascack Valley Line trains.

Train service into and out of Grand Central was suspended into the night after a large tractor-trailer caught fire Tuesday evening under the tracks at East 119 Street and Park Avenue. Almost 100 Metro-North personnel worked through the night to inspect the viaduct to determine the extent of the structural damage and make temporary repairs.

Fire marshals have ruled the inferno an accident. He normally takes the 5:51 a.m. train to Grand Central. The passengers included many teens on their way to school.

This Wednesday, early morning commuters dealt with delays at Grand Central Terminal in New York City.

It was a bad day for commuting overall in the city. “There are the beams that have been cut to be able to do the temporary fix so that we can take the load off that column, transfer it to another section, open up the two center tracks of the structure and restore normal service”, said Prendergast. “I was only delayed like 30 minutes”, said Mike Joshi, who got on at Southport, Connecticut, headed to NY for his teaching job in Brooklyn. “I just don’t even understand it”, said one resident.

Limited service has been restored, with all three lines on a Saturday schedule today.

Commuters should expect delays and crowded conditions and, if at all possible, are encouraged to work from home or find alternate travel plans. Drivers from New Jersey and the northern suburbs grappled with delays of an hour or more.

The four-alarm fire that caused the disruption broke out Tuesday evening below elevated tracks at a construction site at 118th St. and Park Avenue.

The railroad says it will run a Saturday schedule for the Wednesday morning rush hour with trains stopping in the Bronx so passengers can connect to subway service into Manhattan.
