Northeast utilities prepare for threat from tropical storm Hermine
Post-tropical cyclone Hermine is expected to bring one to two inches of rain to MA, and as much as two feet of storm surge along the coast of Long Island, by Wednesday as it moves past the northeast coast of the United States, according to forecasters.

Out to sea, Hermine is expected to regain hurricane-force winds – about 75 miles per hour – sometime during the remainder of the holiday weekend, although the National Weather Service will not officially call it a hurricane.
Hermine’s position Monday southeast of Nantucket created 20-foot waves and wind gusts of up to 50 kph about 55 miles southeast of the island, Buttrick said.
It’s possible that a new storm in the Caribbean will turn into Ian. Hermine spun away from the U.S. East Coast on Sunday, removing the threat of heavy rain but maintaining enough power to churn risky waves and currents and keep beaches off-limits to disappointed swimmers and surfers during the holiday weekend.
The hurricane centre also announce a new hurricane named Newton had formed in the Pacific Ocean.
USA Today reported tens of thousands of homes in Florida and Georgia lost power when the storm came ashore; now utilities in the northeast are keeping a close eye on the weather system and have secured additional resources to help deal with a potential recovery.
Clinton pledged to work with local leaders to make “smart investments” in infrastructure to combat flooding and other climate change effects.
“These waves are likely to cause life-threatening surf and rip current conditions, and significant beach erosion”.
Gould said Hermine could linger in the area through Wednesday.
One person died in Florida as Hermine approached.
A cold frontal boundary impacted the northern tier of the country on Tuesday, while Post-Tropical Cyclone Hermine meandered off of the East Coast.
Rip current threats were issued for the coastline of NY, even though it appeared to have weakened and tropical storm warnings for the city were cancelled.
The weather service said there is still a threat of minor coastal flooding across low-lying areas.
Hermine first made landfall in Florida early Friday as a Category 1 hurricane, before weakening to a tropical storm.
Similar warnings were also in effect for Fire Island Inlet and Port Jefferson Harbor along Long Island, though officials began to back off fears of the worst.

The couple, both in their 60s, said they knew the storm would blow over, even as friends texted their concerns.
