Two women were killed and five other people suffered life threatening injuries this morning when a Greyhound bus overturned on the ramp connecting Highways 101 and 85 in South San Jose, according to the California Highway Patrol.

A Greyhound bus with 20 people aboard crashed in the San Jose area today while traveling from Los Angeles to San Francisco, killing two people and injuring several others, authorities said.
Ehlers says the bus was on its side when he climbed out with his girlfriend, and he saw people lying face down in the concrete.
Greyhound bus #86558 was traveling from Los Angeles to San Francisco, with stops scheduled in San Jose and Oakland. A passenger said the bus was about half full. But Antonio Olivera, of San Francisco, said he was notified by the Santa Clara County coroner’s office that his mother, Fely Olivera, 51, died after being ejected from the bus. Four of the injured were transported to area hospitals.
Authorities were investigating the cause of the accident, but no other vehicles were involved. Several passengers with minor injuries were ferried to a hospital in a local commuter bus to be checked out by medical personnel for bruises and cuts, the CHP said.
This story has been corrected to reflect that there were 39 passengers on the bus, not 19. “They’ll look into the driver for the past 24 hours, get a 24 hour profile on the driver and see what he’s done over the past 24 hours”, said Brazil.
Bus crash fatalities in California have been on a sharp uptick over the past few years. San Jose Fire Capt. Christopher Salcido said 20 people were aboard the bus when it crashed. The NTSB is also sending in a team to run a parallel investigation.

The crash caused traffic to be backed up for miles, in what had already been a slow morning commute due to rain, according to FOX News.
