Chicago’s official Christmas tree is at its new home in Millennium Park.

The tree is a 63-foot Colorado blue spruce donated by the Voelker family from northwest suburban Northlake, according to a release from the City of Chicago.

The tree will be decorated with 9,000 multi-colour LED lights over the next few weeks before being lit up for the Christmas season. That happens on November 24th.

The city made a decision to move the tree to Millennium Park this year from its classic Daley Plaza location to be closer to the ice skating rink, caroling at Cloud Gate and Maggie Daley Park.

For nearly 50 years, Chicago has held its tree lighting in Daley Plaza. However, city officials said this year it would be combined with holiday activities, including special visits with Santa Claus after the tree-lighting ceremony.

Chicago officially has a Christmas tree.

The enormous Christmas tree is arriving very soon.

Another option for drivers will be to turn westbound on Madison Avenue and then northbound on State Street and then eastbound on Wacker Drive back to MI Avenue.
