Northwestern reveals 1995 throwback uniforms for homecoming against Iowa

A mid-season game at Iowa may not seem like the most important game for the Wildcats, but this is more about what comes before this contest. The Wolverines scored three touchdowns in the first quarter.

University of Iowa head football coach Kirk Ferentz will meet with media Tuesday at 1:15 p.m. (CT) in the All-American Room in the Stew and LeNore Hansen Football Performance Center to discuss Saturday’s top 25 matchup at No. 20/21 Northwestern. Northwestern is 5-1, 1-1 after falling 38-0 at Michigan last weekend. Wide receiver Tevaun Smith is also out. After almost 50 years of bowl absences, the moribund Wildcats were 8-1 and facing Iowa, a team that had beaten them 21 years in a row.

“This team wants Iowa so much, I can’t put it into words”, Barnett said before the 1995 game.

Northwestern won that game 31-20. This may be Northwestern’s last chance, except possibly the Big Ten Tournament, to show the committee what they can do against a tournament caliber opponent. He came back out for the fourth quarter on crutches. “Obviously it shouldn’t happen”. The uniforms for Saturday are the same black-jersey, purple-pants combination worn by the team in the 1996 Rose Bowl, where Northwestern lost to then Pac-10 champion USC.

“I’m feeling good, just been getting treatment and trying to heal up and get better”, Beathard said.
