Not even a crash can stop Farah over 10000 at Olympics

The distance runner became the first British track and field athlete to win three Olympic golds as he came home in a time of 27:05.18.

But this was no straightforward championship win as Farah had to recover from being accidentally tripped by his his American training partner Galen Rupp in the middle of the race.

Farah, with thoughts of his daughter Rihanna flashing through his mind, proved again he is in a league of his own at the moment – and right up there with the greatest in history.

He worked his way back up to third with 11 laps to go and was first going into the bell lap, but Paul Tanui of Kenya made a charge with 300 to go and led until Farah again surged and sprinted away to win in 27 minutes, 5.17 seconds.

Ennis-Hill’s scored of 6,775 points was her best since London 2012, but she could not live with Thiam, who produced five personal bests from her seven events. Close but not close enough as his reign in the 25-lap race extended to next championship that will at home when Britain hosts the 2017 Worlds.

The USA’s Jeff Henderson leaped 27 feet and six inches (8.38 meters), winning a gold medal in the men’s long jump by one centimeter. “It’s hard mentally when you go down”, an emotional Farah told reporters. “I’m proud of Jamaica – just look at my hair”, she said, alluding to her brightly-dyed locks.

As the reigning Olympic, World, Commonwealth and European champion, Rutherford had been favourite ahead of the Games. I thought about my family. “I was thinking don’t panic, don’t panic, don’t panic”, Farah said.

In the early stages of the race, Mo strategically, deliberately lagged behind, stocking up energy for the crucial latter part, where most other athletes would have dried up their reserve of stamina.

Trott, and team mates Joanna Rowsell Shand, Katie Archibald and Elinor Barker, won a gold medal in the women’s team pursuit, beating the U.S. with a world record time of 4 minutes, 10.26 seconds.

“It feels incredible to make history and to be along with Kenenisa and Haile”, he said.

At the same time he continues to associate himself with distance running coaches of some disrepute, not just the American Alberto Salazar, who single-handedly transformed Farah from mostly also-ran to mostly invincible, but also Jama Aden, the Somalian-born, Ethiopian-based coach who was arrested by Spanish police in June for possessing an array of performance enhancing drugs.

Ennis-Hill, 30, was beaten by Belgian Nafissatou Thiam despite winning the final event, the 800m. When I crossed the line I got really emotional. But the Briton quickly got up and signalled all was OK with a thumbs up.

The only gold medal decided in the early session on Saturday went to Christoph Harting from Germany in the men’s discus.
