Notre Dame Dismisses Senior Safety After Arrest
“Their conduct fell far short of what we expect from those who represent our football team and this great university”, said Kelly.

Even though four of the six arrested players are not now being kicked off the team, Brian Kelly did note that the status of the players can still be impacted by the legal system, in addition to the university’s discipline.
School discipline is the responsibility of Notre Dame’s Office of Community Standards.
As Amazing as it might sound, Coney, Redfield, Stepherson, White, and Williams might’ve had a much better weekend than another teammate, cornerback Devin Butler. “This is such an instance”.
Kelly said the standard of expectations is high, even more so for upperclassmen. Max and, at least at this stage in the review of his case, Devin, have failed in that regard and so have lost the privilege of continuing to be part of our team.
When The Observer contacted the St. Joseph County Jail booking desk again, it confirmed the incident occurred at 1631 South Bend Ave., which is the address of the Linebacker Lounge, a popular student bar located just off Notre Dame’s campus. When this happened, Devin Butler reportedly became very angry towards one of the women in the group. Officers eventually detained Butler using a taser, and arrested him.
He reportedly apologized while being transported to jail, saying he’d been incredibly emotional and intoxicated.
The players charged with misdemeanors can continue on at Notre Dame. The team is off for the rest of the weekend for the first time since camp started on August 7th.
Five Irish football players
Redfield is one of five players facing charges after police say they found marijuana and a loaded gun in their vehicle during a traffic stop. A search revealed that there were indeed drugs in the auto, along with a loaded handgun.
Redfield was a two-year starter at safety for the Irish, while Coney and Williams each saw action last year for Notre Dame.

The No. 9 college football team in the country may lose several players after five Notre Dame Fighting Irishmen were charged with marijuana possession during a traffic stop 45 miles south of South Bend on August 19. Butler was expected to compete for a full-time starting role this offseason, but he refractured his foot over the summer, an injury that left his health status for 2016 unclear.
