Gear up, Notre Dame fans!].

Notre Dame starting defensive lineman Jarron Jones has suffered a significant knee injury that is expected to require surgery, a source confirmed to ESPN.

The 6-foot-5, 315-pound Jones missed all of spring practice while nursing a foot injury that kept him out of the final two games of the 2014 season.

The Irish have some experienced depth at the Nose Guard position.

Early Enrollee Freshman Jerry Tillery’s work load likely increases with the injury as well. Daniel Cage is expected to be called on to fill in as well.

In Jones’ absence, junior Isaac Rochell could potentially slide inside from defensive end. On Saturday, Kelly said that there was no update on Williams on Keivarae Russell with regards to their eligibility status.

While a huge loss for the Irish, losing Jones for the season doesn’t completely derail Notre Dame’s playoff hopes.

This season would have been the second year the senior started. Remember, in 2012 Notre Dame’s secondary looked paper thin in August and unable to sustain any losses.
