Notre Dame Fighting Irish Favorites Over Texas Longhorns
Shaun Crawford watched games like this one as a fan last season. “We can’t go in anticipating anything, assuming anything”.

Last Oct. 3 at TCU, Texas football suffered one of its most humiliating afternoons ever when it fell behind 30-0 in the first quarter en route to a 50-7 defeat.
There’s a buzz that more than 20,000 Irish fans could be in attendance Sunday night at the 100,000 seat Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium.
The 5-foot-9, 185-pound Crawford is both that tug-of-war’s symbol and linchpin. And we could easily be talking about another Texas loss by the beginning of next week.
“It was the handgun that was the game-changer”, Kelly said on dismissing Redfield. “That’s not us. We’re a totally different team than we were last season”. We were box-safety types. Jennifer Westendorf also gave the Redbirds’ defense a lot to think about as she got off five shots in 70 minutes of action. We needed guys that could cover on the corner.
“We know how critical this year is”. It’s young, but it fits the defense now. But what were the best and most memorable of those games? At 5Dimes, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish are -3.5 over Texas.
The next year was a lesson on how even one week can make a difference.
“I’m just so excited to play for him”, Bluiett said. He’s got it all. With more talent on the roster, it’s up to the coaching staff to put the pieces together and start winning games. “I think if Devin was clearly ahead of Sebastian, we’d have Devin on the field over Sebastian, but Sebastian’s had a good camp”. “That’s why we came here”. But he did lead the Longhorns to a big win over Notre Dame in 1934, a game that was played in South Bend.Danny Lester making an interception on Notre Dame in the Cotton Bowl, January 1, 1970. What a championship style would be this year, I think, would be to get back behind Zaire and keep him out there; limiting his run plays and only using that asset on broken plays. I’m thinking 44 yards, maybe 45 (yards). They’re seniors or captains, and when they play well, I feel like everything clicks for us. Is this too much?’
“They were one of my top schools”, Wright said. Strong on Monday, Aug. 29, 2016, declined to say will start at quarterback when the Longhorns face No. 10 Notre Dame next Sunday in the 2016 season opener, declaring only that he already knows who will it will be.
Notre Dame Football begins its 2016 campaign with a rare Sunday night showdown with the Texas Longhorns in the Shamrock Series.
“I was proud of the way our team competed tonight against a quality team in Notre Dame”, coach Eric Golz said. That’s especially true, because of the Irish possessing the depth to cause a great deal of trouble during the game. Kizer also threw 10 interceptions on the season. But it wasn’t just injuries that ND had trouble dealing with.
Sunday’s total is set at 59 points.
The Notre Dame Fighting Irish are 10-0 straight up and 6-4 against the spread in their last 10 games as the betting favorite.
Jaylon Smith, Sheldon Day and top pass rusher Romeo Okwara are not walking through that door for the Irish but that doesn’t mean coordinator Brian VanGorder’s defense will see a huge regression from a season ago.
Crawford credits playing in a complex high school scheme at Lakewood St. Edward and running AAU track at an early age for developing the mental edge that accelerated his growth curve and complements his physical skills.
“He’s not afraid”, said senior Torii Hunter Jr., the successor to All-American Will Fuller as ND’s most hard receiver matchup. He doesn’t look that way, but he’s going to try to play that way. “I’m going all out”. As for the actual game on the field, Texas will be fighting an uphill battle.

“So far I’m happy”, Romagnolo said. “When this opportunity was coming up, I wanted to be ready for it”. I want my teammates to count on me and hold me accountable.
