Notre Dame football players arrested in 2 incidents

The five other players were arrested on Friday night after Indiana State Police said a trooper stopped a auto, reportedly driven by White, in Fulton County about 35 miles south of South Bend for speeding.

“Senior safety Max Redfield, redshirt freshman cornerback Ashton White, freshman wide receiver Kevin Stepherson, sophomore running back Dexter Williams and sophomore linebacker Te’von Coney were each charged with possession of marijuana, a misdemeanor”.

“Any student arrested on a felony charge also faces dismissal from the university”, Browne said. All five were still in the Fulton County Jail on Saturday morning.

According to the Notre Dame student newspaper, The Observer, Butler was booked into St. Joseph County jail following a physical confrontation at a South Bend bar adjacent to Notre Dame’s campus. Police say the vehicle, a 2007 Ford Focus, also had an “improper taillight”. The trooper used his narcotics detecting police dog to conduct a free air sniff around the Ford. According to the latest reports, police responded to a bar scene shortly after midnight following a call about a fight with bar security. It was then that police officers also intervened in a fight between several women, which also involved Butler.

“He shouted profanities at the officers and started swinging his fist”, Galea said.

Senior cornerback Devin Butler was arrested early Saturday morning on charges of battery to law enforcement and resisting law enforcement.

The officer was taken to a hospital for treatment for minor injuries, including a sore wrist, he said. White, a sophomore, is not in the Irish two-deeps at cornerback. It was the same foot he broke during preparation for the Fiesta Bowl against Ohio State. He was projected as a starting corner exiting the spring before a foot injury in mid-June was expected to sideline him for up to four months. With a felony charge looming over him, it is likely Butler has played his last snap at Notre Dame.

There have not been any statements released from the attorneys of the players as of yet, nor a statement from Notre Dame football.

The Irish are ranked No. 9 in the preseason coaches poll, with the preseason AP poll due out Sunday at 10 a.m. EDT.
