Notre Dame Players Arrested
A statement released by university spokesman Paul Browne on Saturday read that “any student arrested on a felony charge also faces dismissal from the university”.

Butler is scheduled to be arraigned at 1 p.m. Wednesday.
According ot the Chicago Tribune, five players – safety Max Redfield, linebacker Te’Von Coney, wide receiver Kevin Stepherson, running back Dexter Williams and cornerback Ashton White – were arrested after a traffic stop, when police found marijuana and a handgun in the auto.
All five were charged with misdemeanor marijuana possession, according to CBS News, while Redfield, Stepherson and Williams face an additional charge of possession of an unlicensed handgun. Four other players who were arrested could face discipline from the university, but Redfield and Butler received the most severe punishment because they are upperclassmen.
The St. Joseph County prosecutor’s office said Butler faced possible charges of resisting law enforcement and battery to a police officer, both felonies.
He apologized in the police auto. Redfield was one of six Irish players arrested overnight in two separate incidents.
Butler was arrested following allegations that he pushed a woman outside a South Bend, Ind., lounge and an altercation with a police officer. One officer was taken to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries, including a sore wrist.
Starting safety Max Redfield, running back Dexter Williams, linebacker Te’Von Coney, receiver Kevin Stepherson and cornerback Ashton White were charged with misdemeanor marijuana possession.
At Notre Dame, where we place so much importance on the integration of students who are athletes into the broader university, the primary responsibility for discipline lies, as it should, with the University’s Office of Community Standards.
Perhaps Notre Dame should have told their players that the M in team doesn’t stand for “marijuana arrest”. “Max and, at least at this stage in the review of his case, Devin, have failed in that regard and so have lost the privilege of continuing to be part of our team”.

Senior cornerback Devin Butler was suspended indefinitely, but he was already ruled out until October after breaking his foot in June.
