Nottingham Forest’s David Vaughan picked by Wales for Euro 2016

Chris Coleman says it would be pointless beating England if they were not to get out of Group B at Euro 2016.

Wales’ opening game will be against Slovakia on June 11th.

Coleman also said striker Hal Robson-Kanu is suffering with a “leg issue” while Joe Allen is also struggling for fitness ahead of Wales’ final warm-up game in Sweden on 5 June.

Robson-Kanu’s forward play was a big part of Wales’ success in qualification, his selfless running allowing space for Gareth Bale to decide matches with his brilliance.

“[Ledley] trained on the grass, albeit with the medical team, and looked good”.

Bale scored seven times as Wales ended a 58-year wait for qualification, and getting out of a group containing England, Slovakia and Russian Federation is now the first objective.

But full-backs Paul Dummett and Adam Matthews both missed out, with Coleman naming only seven defenders. Bale spent the entire period of extra-time barely able to move, but it was nothing more than a severe bout of cramp.

“When you have someone like that in your group we have to raise ourselves to his level, not the other way around”, said Coleman after naming his 23-man squad for France.

“We have a good squad of players and probably have the best player in the tournament in my opinion, and probably many people’s opinion, so why can’t we can’t we go and win that as well?”

Liverpool pair Allen and Danny Ward have been troubled by knee problems but are expected to be fit for the Slovakia opener in Bordeaux.

David Vaughan, Emyr Huws and David Edwards are likely to contest the one remaining midfield spot should Ledley be passed fit.

“Balo will tell you how good Aaron is”, said Coleman.

Swansea defender Williams is full of optimism after a productive training camp in a sunny Portugal.
