Nova improved to 5-0 with a 2.53 ERA in seven starts with the Pirates.

Over on the Pirates’ side, we’ll be seeing RHP Ivan Nova in the start Thursday. “It was a really nice mix of pitches and pitching”.

Nova was 7-6 with the Yankees.

Nova hasn’t lost since joining the Pirates at the trade deadline, posting a 5-0 record.

Zack Cozart singled in the Reds’ lone run in the sixth. Nova threw 94 pitches, not walking any while striking out four.

“I think my wife and everybody likes it when I get home early, so I try to make it as quick as possible”, Nova said with a grin.

As for the Pirates, they’re 1-5 in their last six game ones of a series, and 1-8 in their last nine overall.

“Tonight was best I felt since being up here”, Brault said. “I just got under it”.

It was Phillips’ 10th home run of the season and only the second since hitting two against the Pirates on August 6.Before Phillips came through in the sixth, Reds right-hander Tim Adleman controlled the game with solid work from the mound and plate.

“He’s in a good place”, Hurdle said.

Indians 10, Astros 7 • Host Cleveland scored a pair of runs on a controversial bases-loaded wild pitch by David Paulino in the third inning that led to the ejection of Houston manager A.J. Hinch, and the Indians went on to a win.

Pittsburgh Pirates’ Andrew McCutchen, left, and Josh Harrison fist-bump after McCutchen’s sacrifice fly scored Harrison in the eighth inning of a baseball game against the Cincinnati Reds in Pittsburgh, Friday, Sept. 9, 2016.

Gregory Polanco singled with two out for the Pirates’ second hit of the inning, after Josh Harrison doubled but was thrown out two batters later after getting caught off second on Andrew McCutchen’s fielder’s choice. Straily got a win his last time up against the Cardinals, going 5.2 innings with three hits and one earned. “It was kind of the way it happened”.

Reds: CF Billy Hamilton (strained oblique) missed his fourth straight game with a strained oblique and stayed behind in Cincinnati to receive treatment.

“I don’t spend a lot of time with the what-if game – this game drives you insane enough as it is, to try to find different ways to go nuts before your time”, Reds manager Bryan Price said. Steven Brault takes the hill, and he’s 0-2 with a 3.32 ERA and 17 strikeouts this season.

Duvall was initially given a hit, breaking up the no-hitter, but Brandon Phillips immediately grounded into a double play. Nova has a 2.89 ERA in six starts with the Pirates. Adleman surrendered two runs on seven hits in six innings. In a game with little offensive action early, the Reds built a 2-1 lead off the bat of an unlikely source. He had gone 7-1 in his previous eight decisions.

The Pirates are skipping both Chad Kuhl and Jameson Taillon’s next turns in the pitching rotation.

Taillon, who did not pitch the last two seasons following Tommy John surgery, has pitched 149 2/3 innings in the majors and minors this season, and Kuhl has pitched 134 1/3 innings. RHP Drew Hutchison starts Saturday in Kuhl’s spot and RHP Gerrit Cole comes off the disabled list for the second time following the All-Star break to start Monday in Philadelphia. This will be Brault’s first career game against the Reds.
