A playoff berth will be forged. That’s something Oklahoma and the Big 12 do not have-not yet, anyway.
Two Oklahoma State and one Oklahoma football players earned Big 12 Player of the Week honors for their performances against Texas Tech and Kansas, the conference announced Monday.

Last week, college football once again threatened to let us down with just one ranked vs. ranked game. The Bears have the seventh-toughest remaining schedule in the nation. Baylor will have opportunities in a three-week November stretch against Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and TCU.
“Alabama from our point of view had a stronger schedule in the games they have won”, said selection committee chairman Jeff Long, the athletic director at Arkansas.
The Big 12 honor is his first and fourth for the an Oklahoma player. For the Sunday championship match, fans will be able to enter for a chance to win a Big 12 VIP Experience at the 2016 Phillips 66 Big 12 Men’s Basketball Championship in March. He worked for us for three years at Texas, and he’s got Major Applewhite who played and worked for us as offensive coordinator, and Oscar Giles played at Texas and worked for us as defensive end coach.
Who that team might be is anybody’s guess.
Baylor also just lost their starting quarterback Seth Russell, and we’ve yet to see his replacement, true freshman Jarrett Stidham in a starting role so it’s a massive question mark moving forward.
“I think maybe we jumped a little ahead of ourselves Texas week”, wide receiver Sterling Shepard said, per Jason Kersey of the Oklahoman. The bigger the event, the more they become worthy of playing in the college football playoff.
OSU is listed as a five-point underdog against the Horned Frogs. Of course, the Buckeyes ended the debate by winning the national championship.
Oklahoma seems to be surging at the right time, as well.
Iowa State may have four losses on its resume, but quarterback Joel Lanning is undefeated in his lone start of the season against Texas, and the Cyclones may have a gem in their redshirt sophomore gunslinger. Their 146.5 return yards allowed per game rank amongst the worst in the country.
“He is unreal”, said Texas Tech coach Kliff Kingsbury. “We’re executing really well”.
Tech stopped Oklahoma State on its first three drives of the third quarter, but a punt return for a touchdown was between the stops.
