Kejriwal tweeted “I support demand of protesting MCD employees that they shud get their full salaries”.

On Sunday, AAP chose to sidestep the strikers and called upon the Public Works Department to lead the way, even as it deployed its own volunteer force to clean the garbage in some localities.

All the three wings of the MCD – South, East and North – are controlled by the BJP, the AAP’s main rival in Delhi.

The protestors demanded immediate release of funds for their salaries, which they said were pending for months, and threatened to go on an indefinite strike if their demands are not met soon.

Upadhyay also requested Kejriwal to release about Rs. 3000 crores to the municipal corporations pending on the basis of the recommendations of 3rd Delhi Finance Commission.

He said the salary bills were nearly thrice the non-plan funds that the Delhi government gave.

Deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia, who took part in cleanliness drive in his Patparganj constituency, alleged a “salary scam” in the corporations.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Sanjay Singh on Monday said that Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has become the den of corruption and claimed that the Delhi government has provided all the related documents proving that the salary had been duly paid to all the MCD workers. The strike by almost 12,000 teachers of about 1,100 NDMC and EDMC schools will affect around 7 lakh students, a senior municipal official said.

Healthcare services, except the emergency ward, in many hospitals run by municipal corporations in Delhi witnessed a shutdown today as doctors, nurses and medical staff suspended work as part of the indefinite strike by municipal corporation employees. AAP government is clearing them.
