A new statement released by Lucasfilm boss Kathleen Kennedy reads: “Rogue One takes place before the events of Star Wars: A New Hope and will be a departure from the saga films but have elements that are familiar to the Star Wars universe”.
The announcement of “Star Wars” lands comes as fans gear up for the December release of The Force Awakens, the opening film in a new Star Wars trilogy.
In addition to that battle experience, visitors will be able to drive “one of the most recognisable ships in the galaxy”, the Millennium Falcon, on a secret mission, he said.
The announcement was made by Disney chief executive and chairman Bob Iger at the annual D23 Exposition in Anaheim.

R2-D2 will be rolling into Mickey Mouse’s neighborhood, Disney announced Saturday, unveiling plans for two huge “Star Wars” attractions at existing theme park venues in Florida and California. “I couldn’t be happier”, Ford said to the room of 7,500 fans.
Star Wars fans had several reasons to celebrate this weekend after Walt Disney and Lucasfilm unveiled the latest plans for the epic franchise. Director J.J. Abrams had previously confirmed that the villain Kylo Ren had received his name after joining this group, but did not give more details about it. The poster features Boyega’s character Finn wielding a blue lightsaber, stirring speculation that he might end up as a Jedi despite appearing in the trailer as a storm trooper. “Star Wars Episode IX” will not debut until 2019, giving Trevorrow enough time to complete “Book of Henry”. Of course not. Disney are aiming to have one Star Wars movie every year, this is what it takes to make that happen. They include an 11-acre (4.5-hectare) “Toy Story” land at Disney s Hollywood Studios in Florida.
The new lands will be Disney’s largest single-themed land expansion in the history of the parks.
