Assassin’s Creed is now filming in Europe under the direction of Macbeth’s Justin Kurzel and also stars Marion Cotillard, Jeremy Irons, Brendan Gleeson, and Michael K. Williams.

In the interview, translated by Den of Geek, Baronnet says the Assassin’s Creed movie (and other Ubisoft films) will be different first because they are produced autonomously, without a big-name Hollywood studio. “Even more incongruous, he engaged us with nothing”. There was no script, no studio or anything.

We told [Fassbender] that we would build the project together, we had a huge brand and we wanted to make a film that was inspired to the characteristics of Batman Begins and Blade Runner. That is why we tend to. Baronnet also told Fassbender that the studio planned to work with the actor in making key creative choices for Assassin’s Creed, to create a truly collaborative film franchise.

That’s a bold comparison, but this isn’t the first time we’ve heard that a lot has gone into ensuring that this adaptation of Assassin’s Creed doesn’t make the same mistakes as the likes of Hitman: Agent 47 and Doom. Finding actors who love the brands and are willing to help shepherd them through development may yet prove an effective method to avoid the pitfalls of adapting video games to the screen.

He also touched on Tom Hardy’s upcoming portrayal of special operative Sam Fisher in the live-action adaptation of “Splinter Cell”. It’s been quite a few time since we received an update on that one, and while Baronnet didn’t give too much away about where things now stand with it, he did at least confirm that the British actor is still attached. No such concessions to the older machines have been made this year- if you want to play Assassin’s Creed now, you will need a PS4, an Xbox One, or a high level PC.

The company has a similar arrangement with Tom Hardy for an adaptation of Splinter Cell. We had the same discussion and it is also committed immediately. “We worked a lot with him on the character”. With arbitration returning us as we fund. The beauty of being a small structure is that no contingencies that lead us to release films in greenlighter quickly.

“Our approach is to remain in control of the development, so to finance it 100%”. After all, the best actors prepare. “We choose writers who are not necessarily stars, but people who have understood the [brand] universe”, Baronnet said. It is the combination of the three who built this scenario.
