Pistorius is set to be released from prison on Friday to serve the rest of his sentence under house arrest in his uncle’s mansion… nestled in a leafy Pretoria suburb and said to have over a dozen bedrooms.
Their views were overruled when the parole board decreed that Pistorius was eligible for house arrest because of his good behaviour.
Judge Thokozile Masipa erroneously excluded critical aspects of circumstantial evidence in Oscar Pistorius’s culpable homicide conviction, the State argued in its appeal papers on Monday.
Pistorius could face a minimum of 15 years in prison if a new panel of judges sees fit to change his conviction from the equivalent of manslaughter to murder.
Pistorius became an iconic figure during the 2012 Olympics, competing as an amputee in the 400-meter and 4×400-meter races.
They are appealing both the judgement and the sentence, calling the five-year jail term “shockingly light”. They did forgive Pistorius for what happened, but said that those who had been found guilty should be held accountable and not be released early.
OSCAR Pistorius will only be able to leave his house to go to church when he is freed from jail next week.
Lawyers for Pistorius, who is to be released on correctional supervision on Friday, will have until September 17 to file a response, Mfaku explained.
He fired four shots through the locked door of the toilet in his Pretoria home, apparently thinking Steenkamp was an intruder hiding inside. Officials say that he will not have to wear an electronic monitoring device.
