NPD Results For July 2015: PS4 Tops Hardware and Software Sales

However, Xbox One sales were up 44 per cent on July 2014 and 3DS sales in 2015 have been up 35 per cent on the first seven months of a year ago.

According to The NDP Group Sony’s platform has once again outsold the Xbox One and the Wii U. While sales are high for the PlayStation 4, NPD analyst Liam Callahan offered a little insight on the hardware sales.

It looks like the current generation consoles are selling quite well, with the Xbox One and PS4 sales being “close to” 50% ahead of where the PS3 and Xbox 360 sales were at the same time in their lifespan.

Sony’s PS4 continues to sell like hot cakes having recently passed the 25 million mark worldwide compared to Xbox One’s 13 million, but Microsoft’s Xbox division boss Phil Spencer isn’t concerned with playing catch-up.

Microsoft’s corporate vice president of Marketing, Mike Nichols has also given his say regarding the Xbox One sales which are now below PS4’s, according to him the company is now working on several video-game projects which were teased at Gamescom 2015 in Cologne, Germany and will help them over take PS4 sales in Q4. Some of the other games that made the Top 10 list, in no particular order, include Mortal Kombat X, Grand Theft Auto V, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, and Destiny.

The PS4 led hardware sales, with Sony highlighting the performance of the Batman: Arkham Knight bundle. SuperData Research, which tracks sales and deliveries over the Internet of games and game add-ons, said the market grew 12 percent in July to $1.03 billion year over year.

In July, Warner Bros. had the top two best-selling video games at U.S. retail, besting such major publishers as Activision Blizzard (NASDAQ:ATVI) and Electronic Arts (NASDAQ:EA).

As per NPD results out for July 2015, Sony Corporations’s (ADR)’s (NYSE:SNE) PlayStation 4 once again dominated US hardware and software sales.
