The National Rifle Association’s Political Victory Fund announced support for Koster Tuesday, the Democratic candidate for Missouri governor.

Koster welcomed the endorsement and further pledged to defend the Second Amendment as governor.

In its endorsement, the group praised Koster’s position on Second Amendment rights.

“On behalf of our 5 million members and Missouri’s law-abiding gun owners, we are proud to endorse strong Second Amendment supporters for statewide offices”.

Last month, he won the backing of the political action committee of the Missouri Farm Bureau, one of the state’s most formidable agricultural organizations.

In a letter to Koster, Chris Cox, chairman of the NRA-PVF, pointed to several things Koster has done, including his support of Senate Bill 656, which, among other things, would have allowed anyone not now prohibited from possessing a firearm the ability to hide carry without a permit. The NRA notes his work as a state senator for Missouri’s Right-to-Carry proposition.

Koster leads his Republican opponent, retired Navy SEAL Eric Greitens by an average of 6.3 points, according to RealClearPolitics. Greitens gained some national attention for his television ads that feature him shooting guns.

“We’re not gonna win the career politician insider endorsement contest”, Greitens’ campaign manager Austin Chambers said in a statement obtained by the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. “But no one is stronger than Eric on second amendment issues”, he asserted.

Advocated that citizens should have the right to carry a firearm for self-defense during the historic 2003 Right-to-Carry legislative fight.

It was amusing to watch reliably left-wing reporters express shock over the NRA siding with a Democrat, as the NRA has a lengthy history of supporting the best pro-gun candidate in races regardless of political party.

Cox also liked Koster’s comments regarding Senate Bill 656, which would allow “permitless” carry of firearms in public, create a “stand your ground” rule in Missouri and extend the use of a firearm on a home intruder to relatives and baby sitters.
