A day after terror strike on IAF base at Pathankot, fresh grenade blast and firing took place on Sunday.
According to him, the terrorists killed six IAF personnel and injured eight others.
Police sources said two more terrorists holed up inside one portion of the frontline air base had been killed after a prolonged gun battle.
Three Defence Security Corps (DSC) personnel also succumbed to injuries at the hospital here during the intervening night of January 2 and 3.
“The terrorists were cordoned off in one area and the operation continued throughout the night (Saturday) and in the morning (Sunday)”, he said.

The terrorists who attacked the IAF base near Pathankot in Punjab failed to destroy the IAF assets due to timely action by security forces, Home Secretary Rajiv Mehrishi said on Sunday.
Niranjan, who was with the National Security Guard (NSG), was killed while attempting to move the body of a terrorist, who had improvised an explosive device under his body.
“Army and para-military forces have surrounded the entire air force base, which is spread in a huge area and has undulating terrain, buildings and forest area which has to be searched very carefully to avoid casualties”. Various security agencies, including the Army, Indian Air Force, Central forces and Punjab Police were involved in the joint operation.
IAF helicopters were also seen flying over the base and nearby areas to assist ground forces in the operations. The last rites will be performed at Kalarikkal Tharavadu, Niranjan’s family home in Elambilassery in Palakkad district.

As the news spread that a commando from Bengaluru had sacrificed his life during the terror operations, people started gathering at duplex house of Niranjan’s father Sivarajan, a retired BEL employee, at Subbanna Layout at Doddabommasandra in Vidyaranyapura. He is survived by his wife and a two-year-old child.
