Nugent burns former team, helps Bengals jolt Jets
Sunday was expected to be a good game between the New York Jets and Cincinnati Bengals.

NY (0-1) had a hellacious pass rush, but it was offset with some huge gaffes in the secondary, as the Bengals (1-0) overcame the former and capitalized on the latter. The Jets probably win the game without that completion, which set up a makeable field goal try.
Forte almost had an open lane for a touchdown late in the fourth but was dropped around 25 yards from the end zone.
It was an impressive debut – Forte was the most productive offensive player on the field. We’ve got a game here Thursday night. The Bengals proved just too much on Sunday and came out on top. Running backs Justin Forsett and Terrance West split carries, with Forsett picking up 41 yards on 10 attempts and West adding 32 yards on 12 carries. Powell looked spry on limited touches. “He had a great game today”.
“We were just sloppy down there”, Marshall said of the Jets’ red-zone struggles. According to Alex Kozora, the last time they did so was in 2008-when Ryan Fitzpatrick, the Jets’ quarterback, was under center.
Dalton still managed to go 23 of 30 for 366 yards with a touchdown and one interception.
-Jets quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick did not look like the Ryan Fitzpatrick of 2015 on Sunday. “I have a short week and I have a lot to do”. Brandon Marshall, the Jets most talented offensive weapon, was invisible in Sunday’s loss. A frustrated Todd Bowles took the podium after the game: “We had a bunch of times to win the ballgame offensively, defensively and on special teams”, Bowles said, per CBS Local Sports.
Mike Nugent was both the hero and villain in the game going 3 for 4 in field goals. This defensive line resembles the dominant years of the “Sack Exchange”. Second year defensive end Leonard Williams had a spectacular game, finishing with two and a half sacks.
This was the end for the Jets, the moment their Week 1 optimism turned into a gut-punch of a 23-22 loss to the Bengals. “We just didn’t get it done”.
Cornerback Darrelle Revis letting up 180 yards and a deep 54-yard touchdown to A.J.
Despite Revis’ blunders, the Jets still almost pulled off the win. Is Revis still the best at his position? No.
It was actually the second time in two seasons the Bengals have converted a pivotal field goal in such a situation. When asked about Revis, who was burned on Green’s 54-yard touchdown, Bowles said sternly: “I think I told you”. They had a very hard time stopping the constant bubble screens and quick passes, and did a poor job of tackling runners in open space. Actually, though? Things perhaps aren’t as bad as they might have seemed.
If the fast start is followed by another strong regular season, Lewis and Co. will get another chance to try to answer the big question in January. Safety George Iloka disagreed with his 15-yard penalty for a hit on Jets receiver Jalin Marshall. Three points would have been a colossal failure, but a blocked field goal – resulting in zilch – can be chalked up as an utter catastrophe.

Then came a missed PAT – the first of Folk’s career. Missing out on those four, virtually automatic points was the difference in the team’s one point loss to a playoff caliber team. The Bills also beat the Jets twice last season, including in the regular-season finale that kept NY out of the postseason.
