A handout picture made available on 26 December 2015 shows a bushfire at Wye River near Lorne, south of Melbourne, Australia, 25 December 2015.
Busloads of locals are being escorted by emergency services to view their devastated homes, 98 of which were destroyed in Wye River and 18 in Separation Creek by the 2300-hectare Jamieson Track blaze.
The Falls Music and Arts Festival, which is held annually near Lorne, may not go ahead because of the fires, its organisers said.
Emergency Management Commissioner Craig Lapsley says the fir could continue burning until February. We will be back into hot, windy weather in January without a doubt.
The area is one of Australia’s leading tourist areas, famed for its picturesque scenery and the weird rock formations visible just offshore in the blustery Southern Ocean.
State Premier Daniel Andrews surveyed the world from the air and recommended emergency providers, noting that there had thus far been no lack of life. It remained principally closed to visitors on Saturday throughout what is usually certainly one of its busiest occasions of the yr.
Bush fires are a common feature of the Australian summer, with up to 15 homes destroyed by blaze near Melbourne on Monday.
Those affected by the devastating Christmas Day bushfires will soon be able to access up to $1300 in emergency relief under a joint state and federal government scheme.
The fire destroyed 116 houses within the little towns of Wye River & Separation Creek, Lapsley stated. Andrews said financial grants had already been issued to help those who had lost their homes.

Phil Ingamells of the Victorian National Parks Association said the state’s forests tend to recover well from bushfires, but pockets of rainforest, such as around a ravine, would take longer.
