Fans of old white guys should get ready to fill their boots again, because the 2016 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees have been announced. Numerous inductees have been waiting for inclusion for several years, but it doesn’t change the fact that this year’s list of inductees is disturbingly slanted towards male White rockers from the ’70s, a sort of last gasp for the “classic rock” generation and another thumbing of the nose at the stars and genres that emerged later. I’m verklempt [emotional]. I don’t know what to say.

The Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame is not without its critics, and came under scrutiny earlier this year, after it got rid of 16 of the 42 nominating committee members, many of whom were part of the early rock and R&B subcommittee.

The film was named for N.W.A.’s debut 1988 album that featured the track “Fuck tha Police”, a searing indictment of officers’ treatment of young African-American men like the group members, who grew up in the rough Los Angeles-area city of Compton.

The Hall Of Fame has been making its selections since 1986.

Induction snubs aside, N.W.A member Ice Cube went on Twitter today (Dec. 17) to thank the voters and graciously accept the induction on the group’s behalf.
