NWA inducted into the hall of greats
Fresh off Thursday’s (12/17) announcement of their Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction, Cheap Trick has inked a deal with Big Machine Records (home of Steven Tyler and Taylor Swift) to release their first album in almost six years, Bang Zoom Crazy… So while many music fans gripe over who didn’t make it and launch social media campaigns for their favorite bands, we’ll introduce you to the 2016 inductees, who were all previously eligible. There is also one notable oddity in the mix – the Los Angeles gangsta rap outfit N.W.A., elected after three unsuccessful nominations in a year when a movie about the group’s career, “Straight Outta Compton”, was a box office hit. This is the verdict of the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame, an institution that singles out bands and individual artists for their “unquestionable musical excellence” without exactly making a rush to judgment. Joel Peresman, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation president and CEO, said that a smaller nominating committee made it easier for rock bands from the ’70s to be nominated and inducted. But regardless of that controversy, all of the bands and people to be added next year pass the smell test, having contributed significant music to the history of their particular niches. These five acts will be honored at the Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony on April 8 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Metal pioneers Deep Purple, who have been passed over many times over the years, are deserving inductees, and so are power-pop greats Cheap Trick. The rule is that acts or individuals are eligible 25 years after their first released recording.

So does this new honor mean that we can expect an N.W.A reunion at the induction ceremony? A limited number of pre-sale tickets will be available for Rock and Roll Hall of Fame members in advance of the public sale date. They were followed by inductees Deep Purple with 25.54 million votes (15.9 percent) and Miller, who collected 25.51 million votes (15.9 percent).
