N.W.A., Deep Purple and Chicago are among the musicians chosen to join the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2016, organizers announced on Thursday.
The influential disco-era band Chic is becoming the Susan Lucci of music, failing to win induction in its 10th year as a nominee.
Chaka Khan, Los Lobos, Nine Inch Nails, The Smiths, The Spinners and Yes to get the honor this year. “I kind of enjoyed having people complain that I wasn’t in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame more than I think I’ll like being in it. I’m sure now that I’m in it, I’ll be forgotten about and nobody will have anything to complain about”.
This year’s Rock and Roll inductees into the Hall of Fame will get their celebration on April 8, at the Brooklyn Barclay’s Center in NY, and will be televised by HBO.
This was the first year his name appeared on the ballot.
He told Classic Rock magazine: “The Hall of Fame should be embarrassed for not inducting us already”.
Midwestern favorites Cheap Trick succeeded with a highly amped version of Beatles-influenced melodies on hits “Surrender” and “Dream Police”.
This year’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony is going to feature mostly classical rock members, as four out of the five newcomers are of that genre, leaving only N.W.A.as the outsider – they are a Los Angeles gangsta-rap group representing a very different style.
The inductees are Cheap Trick, Steve Miller, N.W.A, Chicago, and Deep Purple.
Though Chicago’s popularity is unquestionable, co-founder Robert Lamm thought that the time had passed for the band to get an induction, but was pleasantly surprised they finally were getting the honor.
They went on to sell more than 100 million albums and their story was chronicled in this summer’s hit movie “Straight Outta Compton”, which has been nominated for a Screen Actors Guild award.

The English rock band, formed in 1968, is known for hits such as “Smoke On The Water”, and “Knocking at Your Door”. “Worthy”, the Hall of Fame’s press release says of the group. They are only one of six hip-hop groups or artists who have been inducted.
