NWS: Steady Freezing Rain Awaits Us Monday

About a quarter to a half-inch of ice is expected across the area, with some locally higher amounts, the weather service said.

On Monday, the high pressure system will be in control of Central New York’s weather with the storm system still far to the west.

Freezing rain is coming quicker than expected and a Winter Weather Advisory slated to start this afternoon was moved up and is now in effect.

A slow-moving storm which has developed over the Southwestern US, is expected to bring a stretch of rain & snow across Central United States.

“A glaze of ice and minor (1” or less) snow accumulations are possible north of Providence before the change to rain overnight.

On Monday, the high will be near 51, according to the weather service.

McPike also said the air temperatures are just above 32 degrees, but ground temperatures are around 30, which is causing icy conditions on surfaces.

The forecast calls for scattered showers all afternoon in metro Detroit, including possible freezing rain, with a high of 34 degrees. Chance of precipitation is 80%.

Tomorrow decreasing clouds with highs in the low-mid 40s. “We’re putting out so much more salt than we do with snow to keep it clear”.

A freezing rain advisory has been issued for part of southern Lower Michigan.
