NY attorney general opens ‘inquiry’ into Trump Foundation

A letter to the Trump Foundation by the NY attorney general’s office indicates the investigation is at least partially focused on the $25,000 donation to And Justice For All, a Bondi-aligned political action committee.

Democrats have cited an Associated Press report that Bondi solicited the donation personally, around the time her office was debating whether to join NY state’s investigation into Trump’s real estate training school in Florida.

“We’ve had correspondence with them”, he said. I didn’t make a big deal out of it or hold a press conference.

On Tuesday, New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman told CNN his office has corresponded with the Trump Foundation to inquire into its practices amid concerns that it “may have engaged in some impropriety”.

Ms Bondi, who has endorsed Trump, has called the report misleading.

Washington: Launching a scathing attack on Trump, US President Barack Obama said, “If you are serious about our democracy then you have got to be with her”.

Bondi, her office and the Trump campaign have strongly denied the claim.

Schneiderman is the same attorney general who investigated Trump University earlier this year, calling the institution “a fraud from beginning to end”.

Democrats in the House have called for a federal criminal investigation into the $25,000 (£19,000) donation to a group backing Republican Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi in 2013. For years, the foundation has primarily given away other people’s money, the Post reported this week. As a registered nonprofit, the Trump Foundation is barred from making any political donations.

Trump campaign spokesman Jason Miller dismissed Schneiderman’s probe as being politically motivated.

The AG also is looking into money from the foundation being used to buy a life-sized portrait of Trump and a football helmet signed by Tim Tebow. “It is clearly meant to change the narrative and shift it back onto Trump”, Giraldi, who also worked as a US Army intelligence officer, said Wednesday. “So, we’ll continue to try to bribe her for justice as opposed to bribing her for personal gain, which is what Donald Trump has done”.

Donald Trump also hosted a March 2014 fundraiser for Bondi on the lawn of his palatial Mar-a-Lago Club.

“After receiving these funds, Mrs Bondi declined to further investigate Mr Trump’s business interests”. Attendees were asked to give the $3,000 maximum individual donation allowed under state law.
