NY bombings: FBI releases images of two men related to investigation

NBC reports that Aziza Bibi Rahami should be arriving in NY on Thursday night or early Friday morning, and she will be escorted off the plane separately from the other passengers, according to law enforcement sources. She had voluntarily met with US law enforcement authorities while in the United Arab Emirates this week and gave a statement.

Rahami and another woman had a child together but had not seen each other in more than two years, the second woman said in a statement reported by ABC News.

Officials said they believed Rahami had bought ingredients for the bombs on eBay.

“My family and I were deeply shocked and appalled at the recent incidents involving the explosions in NY and New Jersey, and our thoughts and prayers are with all who were affected”, Mena said.

United States authorities investigated whether Rahami, the naturalised American citizen captured on Monday, had accomplices in the bombings or if he was radicalised during trips to Afghanistan and Pakistan.

The officials spoke on the condition of anonymity because they weren’t authorized to discuss the ongoing case.

In court papers, a public defender sought a court appearance for Rahami, an Afghan-born US citizen, so he can hear the federal terrorism charges against him.

Patton says his office is available to meet with Rahami in New Jersey and represent him at a telephone or videoconference appearance.

A USA law enforcement official confirmed the elder Rahami had twice met with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, first saying that he was anxious his son was hanging out with people who might have connections to militants, but two weeks later contending his real concern was that the son was associating with criminals.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Gabriel W. Gorenstein on Wednesday night noted that court rules require an arrested person be brought before the court “without unnecessary delay”.

According to police, Rahami left his fingerprints on an the unexploded bomb found four blocks away from the Chelsea explosion, a federal criminal complaint stated.

A few minutes later, two men pass by the luggage and appear to admire it, police said.

Mohammad Rahami, his father, made the terrorist claim during a domestic quarrel in which Ahmad Rahami was allegedly brandishing a knife in a confrontation with a brother, according to the official.

Law enforcement officials familiar with the case who would discuss it only on the condition of anonymity said that Mohammad Rahami called his son a terrorist when talking to local police, which led to the involvement of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
