Asia Rahami’s travel comes after Ahmad Rahami’s mother, Najiba, left the US on August 24 for Turkey, the federal sources said.

In 2014, Rahami’s father, Muhammed Rahami, says he reported his son to authorities as a possible terrorist.

The father contacted the Federal Bureau of Investigation after Ahmad Khan Rahami was charged with stabbing his brother, according to the official, who was not named. The father had said it to the FBI during the agency’s investigation after the incident, but an official said Mohammed made the statement out of anger.

Rahami was charged by union county prosecutors with five counts of attempted murder in the first degree and two second-degree weapons charges.

“I never thought he would do something like this”, she said through tears.

– The Rahami family alleged discrimination and harassment in a lawsuit against the city and its police department in 2011, arguing that officials conspired against them with citations for allegedly violating a city ordinance on hours of operation.

There have been no indications by Tuesday morning that Rahami was tied to a local or global terror cell.

The contact came as Ahmad faced charges for stabbing his brother in the leg.

Rahami was arrested and served three months in jail, but was not indicted by a grand jury.

United States prosecutors have formally charged Ahmad Rahami, the suspect who was arrested after weekend bombings in NY and New Jersey in which 29 people were injured.

Investigators are trying to determine what Rahami’s motive was in planting bombs in NY and New Jersey. No one was injured at the Jersey Shore 5k charity race because of a delay prompted by separate police activity.

He used pressure cookers in NY, similar to the one used by the Boston marathon bombers in 2013, and pipe bombs in New Jersey.

It was “a hodgepodge, a rambling, disconnected, choppy series of references to past events”, a law enforcement official said.

Late on Sunday night, five explosive devices were found in a rubbish bin at an Elizabeth train station.

Investigators allege that Rahami purchased bomb-making components on eBay – including ball bearings, citric acid and electronic igniters – before the attacks over the weekend.

His fingerprints and DNA were found at the scene of the Manhattan bombing, they said.
