While more than 100,000 voters were taken off the rolls, he told the New York Times that 63,000 were added and that the decline did not “shock his conscience”.
A Twitter user named LammyGwanBadSuh reported that at her polling place ‘Machines are not up and there are no paper ballots, ‘ the Post reported.
In a statement out Wednesday, Schneiderman said, “I am deeply troubled by the volume and consistency of voting irregularities, both in public reports and direct complaints to my office’s voter hotline”.
“From long lines and dramatic understaffing to longtime voters being forced to cast affidavit ballots and thousands of registered New Yorkers being dropped from the rolls, what’s happening today is a disgrace”, he said.
The most egregious roadblock to a fair voter turnout was in Brooklyn, where 120,000 eligible Democratic voters had been dropped from the rolls without explanation. On primary day, the polls will be open from 6 a.m. until 8 p.m., with district one voting in the high school gym, and districts two and three voting in the Saxe Middle School auxiliary gym.
“We tracked down dozens of voters who say they were disenfranchised and as it turns out they weren’t registered in the party they were trying to vote for”, Ryan said.
“I’ll probably vote when the time comes, I think everyone that can should”, Catanzaro said.
Sen. Bernie Sanders (I, Vt.), who is expected to lose the state Tuesday, argued that the rule has blocked a large chunk of his independent supporters from backing him. It’s not clear why NY has had so many difficulties, but even before polls closed officials were promising to get to the bottom of this dysfunction.
Anyone wishing to cast a vote must be a registered voter in Bryan County and must present some form of photo identification.
