Before state police arrived, Leith said she needed to walk across the parkway and return to her auto in the westbound left lane, doing so despite warnings from the motorists who had assisted her, Hughes said. Just moments after Leith was fatally struck by the vehicle, a patrol auto arrived at the scene, where he was also struck from behind by another passing vehicle as he was getting out of his patrol auto.

A single mother who survived a rollover auto crash in NY was killed moments later while trying to retrieve her belongings, police say. She keeps saying, ‘Where’s Mommy? The driver said he never saw Leith or her auto.

“How do we tell this little girl?” grandmother Claire Hansen told Newsday.

However, after clambering out of the wreckage through a cracked window and being helped to the roadside by other drivers, Leith went back to her auto to collect her belongings.

Employees at Hair Revue & Co., where Brittany Leith is said to have been working, expressed their own heartbreak on their Facebook page Sunday.

That’s when the mother of a three-year-old made the decision that would cost her life.

Before her sudden death, Leith had gone back to cosmetology school to obtain her beauty license.
