No global group had claimed responsibility “but it is very, very early in the investigation”, the state governor told reporters, reiterating what New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio had said hours after the blast.

He urged New Yorkers to return to work Monday without fear of further incidents. He added, “There is no specific and credible threat against New York City at this point in time from any terror organisation”.

It was unclear who was behind the blast and what motivated it.

Early Sunday, police said an investigation into a third suspicious package turned up a bag of trash.

“From what we know now, and it’s limited, nearly anybody could have fabricated these bombs and used cellphones as timed detonators”, said another USA official familiar with the inquiry.

The mayor, along with police and Federal Bureau of Investigation officials, urged anyone who had seen anything unusual before or during the bomb blast to report it to the NYPD using their tip line, at 1-800-577-TIPS.

Cuomo spoke Sunday morning near the site of the Saturday night blast on West 23rd Street in the Chelsea neighborhood.

Saturday night, photos posted to social media showed an extensive emergency presence at the scene, with the area between Sixth and Seventh avenues cordoned off.

The explosion occurred on West 23rd Street around 8:30 p.m.in an area frequented by shoppers and diners. This was the case for David Martinez, one of the 29 injured, who said he was traumatized after seeing his life flash before his eyes. “It wasn’t like jolting or anything, everyone just went quiet”.

He said because no group is taking credit, there is no reason to believe there are global terrorism links. Authorities said dozens suffered minor injuries. He made the announcement minutes after stepping off his plane during a rally at an airport hangar in Colorado Springs, Colorado. They want to make you worry about going into New York City.

He continued, “But boy we are living in a time – we better get very tough, folks”.

Donald Trump used the opportunity to continue to tout his intention to get “tough and smart and vigilant” as president. “It’s a awful thing that’s going on in our world, in our country and we are going to get tough and smart and vigilant”.

Donald Trump, the Republican presidential nominee, told a rally in Colorado Springs, that a “bomb” had exploded in NY, about 45 minutes after the explosion, before authorities had confirmed any details on the nature of the blast. Police also confirmed the incident in Chelsea was not connected to a garbage bomb that went off before a Marine Corps race in New Jersey earlier that day. The run was canceled, and no injuries were reported.
