NY judge rebuffs fantasy sports companies’ bid to block AG’s move

Schneiderman’s office scoffed at the legislation. They also claim Schneiderman threatened their business partners and payment processors. That’s still the case. Schneiderman’s actions are based on the point of view that daily fantasy is illegal gambling.

Of course, DraftKings and FanDuel don’t want you to know this.

“As a result of these efforts, FanDuel is now unable to accept deposits from its customers in NY, causing incalculable, immediate and irreparable harm to FanDuel’s business”, the company said in court papers Monday.

“If we’re going to de facto legalize sports gambling across the USA, we should at least do it on goal and not because two companies have somehow weasled out a way to pretend that they are not something that they clearly are”, says Oliver.

“Time and time again, NY has stood in the way, whether by over-regulation or outright banning, of activities that are legal and enjoyed in most states across the country”, said Ranzenhofer. FanDuel, meanwhile, stopped taking new paid entries from those players on Friday.

“We are confident in our legal position, and look forward to our day in court next week”.

“I’m not easily shocked, but this has been a shocking, irresponsible, irrational and illegal rush to judgment”, DraftKings lawyer Randy Mastro said in court. Vantiv didn’t respond to requests for comment for this story.

But Supreme Court Justice Manuel Mendez ordered the parties back in court on November 25.

DraftKings says it has 375,000 New Yorkers among about 2.5 million total players.

“Attorney generals are supposed to be the people’s lawyer”, he remarks. DraftKings and FanDuel continues to operate in NY State in open defiance of the original cease-and-desist order issued by Schneiderman last Tuesday. Each said they face irreparable damage otherwise.

It’s understandable if players experiencing a longer than usual withdraw period could be wondering if it has anything to do with recent developments in the daily fantasy sports world.
