The events have been known as ticker-tape parades, from the ticker tape that was showered down upon those being celebrated from people in the nearby buildings.
Brewer wrote de Blasio saying this is an “opportunity for New York to recognize that heroes and role models come in all genders”.
The victorious US women’s soccer team may soon score again with a ticker-tape parade down Broadway.
“The mayor’s office congratulates the United States Women’s World Cup Championship team on its tremendous achievement, and is now exploring logistics and talking with the team and other partners about a possible ticker tape parade”, said spokeswoman Karen Hinton. If the parade happens, the USWNT would be the first women’s sports team to get their own parade down the Canyon of Heroes. Most recently, parades have honored wins by the New York Yankees and the New York Giants.
New Yorkers who spoke with NY1 say they think a parade would be a good idea.
The Women’s World Cup champs are set to join a celebratory public rally near the Staples Center in Los Angeles on Tuesday, according to the Associated Press.
