David Marble Jr., of Rochester, New York, was arrested when police stopped a auto in which he was a passenger in Augusta, McCausland said.
About a dozen family members and friends of the victims gathered in the court to watch the court preceding that saw Marble only tell the judge that he understood his rights.
Attorney information for Marble wasn’t immediately available.
The charges against Marble carry the possibility of life in prison without parole. Police say the killing was drug-related.
McCausland said one of the victims called 911 about 3:30 a.m. on Christmas. Officers who responded found them dead. An affidavit about the case remained sealed Wednesday.
Marble, who was living in an apartment in Augusta, Maine, is charged with fatally shooting a local couple in an SUV early on Christmas Day. He was charged with beating and robbing a man in Rochester in 2010, the Kennebec Journal reported. In 2007, he was sentenced to probation on a drug charge.
The RPD wants David Marble, Jr. for second degree assault, leaving the scene of an accident and driving without a license.
RPD says it’s been trying to find Marble and arrest him since late October.

In a release sent out on Wednesday, Rochester police said they have been actively looking for Marble for a hit-and-run on Upper Falls Boulevard.
