Two students at the State University of NY at Geneseo were stabbed to death early Sunday morning by the woman’s ex-boyfriend, police say.
Police on Monday said Colin Kingston entered the apartment of 21-year-old Kelsey Annese before 6 a.m. Sunday near the State University of NY at Geneseo.
Jeffrey Szczesniak, the public information officer for the Geneseo Police Department, said Monday that the attack took place in Annese’s bedroom, and there was a possibility the victims were asleep at the time. He received a phone call from his son who told him he had harmed Annese before hanging up the phone and killing himself.
Police attended the scene and found the three bodies in the same room at around 6am on Sunday.
Reiterated cops: ‘All indications are that Mr. Kingston used the same knife to take his own life’.
‘Jilted lover’ Were Kelsey Annese and Matthew Hutchinson dating? Annese and Hutchinson were students at Geneseo.
Her coach, Scott Hemer, said the senior education major was selfless, and “a grinder” with a work ethic respected by her coaches and teammates.
There will be a remembrance service Wednesday evening at SUNY Geneseo.
Annese hailed from Webster, N.Y, majored in education/Spanish, minored in psychology and was a member of the women’s basketball team, the school said on its website.
The college about 35 miles south of Rochester postponed the mens and womens basketball games scheduled for Tuesday and were making counselors available to students and faculty. It is a profoundly sad day for the college and village of Geneseo, college president Denise Battles said, in a shaky voice nearing tears. Hutchinson served as a firefighter and played on the school’s hockey team.
The young man was in his fourth year at the school and was studying geography and business.
Hutchinson became a member of Geneseo Fire in November 2012, joining other full time students, which make up almost half of the department. “He came back excited to the office telling me about Matt, just simply because when you like a player on the ice, it’s one thing”.
“We think our students will be comforted by keeping as much stability in their life as possible, even during a hard period of mourning”, said Battles.
“There’s multiple law enforcement agencies still involved gathering information to completely put everything together, what happened, but at this point I don’t (see) what could be charged in this incident”, said McCaffrey.
